Final Cut Studio 2 License Registration Bug on MacOSX
June 11, 2007
The problem
As I was installing my shiny new Final Cut Studio 2. I had completed the registration of my product and was ready for the fun part to begin. But, as I went to open each application, I was prompted to re-type my name, organization and serial number. This was happening over and over again for each Final Cut Studio application. What a pain!
I did not want to enter the code every time I started it up… so I took a look around and discovered the problem.
I while back, after listening to TWIT (This Week in Tech), I decided to create a separate admin user on my machine and run the machine from a user without admin privileges for security reasons. It usually works great. When you need to authenticate or to allow installations you just type in the admin user name and password. It turns out that Final Cut Studio 2 didn’t like that I installed it while in a non-admin user.
The Solution
You have to re-serialize the application. Here is a quote from an article that I found on the apple support site:
If you’ve already serialized your application and downloading an update causes it to stop working, try removing your System ID file and enter your serial number again. The System ID file for your product is located in
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Remove the appropriate file for your product, then launch the application and enter your serial number again.
I recommend launching and re-serializing your application from the admin user of your machine. (just in case)
If your problem was similar to mine this solution should give you relief. You are now free to play with your new software (without a constant hindrance). If you are still having issues, you may want to refer to the original apple support document:
